COMMUNITY-BASED REHABILITATION - TOUCHING 3000 LIVES AND COUNTING
A team of dedicated people work tirelessly to achieve the goal of taking count of every specially-abled person in Kodagu and linking them according to their needs, to all the available services from the government. In Sunticoppa and Somwarpet the coverage is almost 100% and now this initiative has moved to Madikeri.
Teams of doctors come in from other countries regularly to set-up free dental check-up camps etc.
TESTIMONIALS
I could not understand!!! Why am I not entitled to love and understanding? All other children seem to take it as their birth-right. I cannot help being who I am!!! Swastha cared. They taught me in a way in which I could learn. They also taught my parents and my community to love, accept, cherish and enable me.
Today, I stand with dignity. I am an important part of society. I have skills and Swastha has helped me stand on my own two feet.
“I am Poovaiah and I work as a farmer. My son Mandanna is mentally retarded. Swastha is God's gift to us. We gave our son life but Swastha gave him hope and recognized his skills. He has won 48 medals at the athletics for the handicapped in Australia and is also a hockey and Cricket player”.
“I am Jayaram and my eldest daughter Jayalakshmi who is 12 years old, has a speech defect. To us, Swastha is like a temple without which we could not have done anything. If she becomes better I would like her to get married or find employment and be independent”.
“I am Manjula and I work in a coffee plantation. My son Prajwal has a speech defect. He is a talented athlete and takes part in short-putt. Ever since he joined Swastha, he has improved a lot and can now read and write. If not for Swastha we would have kept him at home. I would like him to be independent”.
